Brownsville City Council held its regular meeting. All Council members were in attendance except for Roger Parsley.

The Council agreed to the purchase of the mobile app Active 911 for the fire department to add 20 phone numbers.

The contract with Leitchfield gas was discussed and tabled until wording in the contract is made clearer. Leitchfield Gas wants to take ownership of the gas lines and right of ways and in return release Brownsville of debt owed to Leitchfield Gas. City attorney Marc Lovell wants some of the language in the contract to be made clearer before the city agrees and signs the contract. Brownsville City Council is in agreement to turn ownership to Leitchfield Gas once the wording is clearer. This was a contract between Leitchfield Gas and Brownsville that was made in the 1980’s.

Tyler Hopkins from Barren River Area District Development, (BRADD) was on hand to fill the city council in on upcoming dates and issues that BRADD will be going over concerning Strategic Planning. BRADD will also be working with the fire department and the Brownsville Police to help secure grants that will help pay for equipment needed for both departments.

The Brownsville Fire Department was awarded a PPE grant of $7,000 to purchase two sets of turnout gear from the Kentucky Fire Commission.

In a blow to the City and residents, Brownsville was not approved for the T-Mobile grant which would have been used for upgrades to the city park. The city will continue to look for other grant opportunities to help.
