Cave Country Trails to Host Public Workshops

Staff Report

Cave Country Trails, Inc. will host public workshops in January and February to gather input on plans highlighting the Kentucky portion of the historic John Muir 1,000 Mile Walk to the Gulf.

The project focuses on the route taken by naturalist John Muir during his 1867 journey through Kentucky, including stops in Louisville, Elizabethtown, and Mammoth Cave. The effort aims to identify and promote the historic path while connecting communities and enhancing outdoor recreation.

The planning initiative is led by Russell Clark with the National Park Service Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program. Proposed elements include safe walking and cycling routes, connections between national park sites, and community partnerships to highlight tourism and local heritage.

Workshops are open to residents, historians, cyclists, and community leaders.
