Atwell to retire after 30+ years

Police Chief Retirement

Munfordville Assistant Police Chief Ryan Riggs announced the retirement of Police Chief Greg Atwell.

Council Member Ricky Line read Chief Atwell’s official letter of retirement, which will be effective July 31, 2024.

Council Member Tara Wilson thanked Chief Atwell for his years of service and for his assistance to her in her career.  Line echoed the sentiments of Atwell’s service.

Citizen Concerns

An unnamed citizen presented an issue with overgrown trees into and over the road on N. Buckner Avenue and Elk Streets, and an additional location on N. Buckner Avenue near the school.

The city will be looking into the matter.

New Business

The Council heard the first reading of Ordinance 04-2024, which is an annexation of property near the ballpark into the city.

Department Reports

Munfordville Fire Chief Adam Sloan presented the partial run report, which spans from the 14th of June to the end of the month. It included 1 grass fire, 1 trash fire, 5 medical runs, 4 vehicle accidents, 1 fuel spill, 1 canceled run, and 1 Co2 alarm.

Sloan also reported the current roster for the Munfordville Fire Department has 23 members.

There were no presented reports for Code Enforcement, Zoning, or Tourism.

In the Cemetery Report, Neva Brent commented on the appearance of the new pavement in the cemetery.

Fran Bowsher reported that the city received a generator grant from FEMA. She also provided an update on the water meter-related grant for the Clean Water Act.

The next meeting of the Munfordville City Council will be held on Monday, August 12.
