Glasgow shooting leaves two injured

Kevin Abner was arrested on assault charges after firing a shotgun, striking and injuring two brothers at a residence on March 17.

Staff Report

A Glasgow man was arrested following a shooting at a residence along Park City Glasgow Road on Sunday, March 17.

The Barren County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that 59-year-old Kevin Abner told investigators he went to the residence after being told his daughter was there and was possibly being held against her will.

Police say when Abner arrived at the residence he made contact with Shane Wheat, 32, and Anthony Wheat, 42, also brothers, standing in the driveway.

Following a brief verbal altercation, Abner, while still in his vehicle, fired “approximately” two rounds from a shotgun. Both brothers were struck by the shotgun rounds and Abner left the residence, drove “down the road where he was located parked just off the roadway and was taken into custody,” according to police.

The sheriff’s office sent out a news release Sunday evening with few details on the shooting but did say the Wheat brothers were transported to T.J. Samson Hospital by “private means.” More details were shared on Monday morning.

As of Monday morning, Anthony was listed in stable condition while Shane is listed in critical condition.

During the investigation, which is ongoing, Abner’s unnamed daughter was interviewed and told police she was not being held against her will and was free to leave the residence at any time, according to BCSO.

Abner is charged with first-degree and second-degree assault and lodged in the Barren County Detention Center.
