For 33 years, Superintendent Bo Matthews has served in various roles in the Barren County Schools. On Thursday, Feb. 8, Matthews announced his upcoming retirement at the regular school board meeting.

He has served as the Barren County Superintendent for the last 13 years. His retirement will be effective June 30.

“After much thought and prayer, I have decided to retire at the end of this school year,” Matthews said in an email to all Barren County staff. “I cherish every role I have been blessed to play in this district. I will take away the fond memories of students in my classroom, players on my teams, kids on a bus I was driving, and staff members I have worked beside.”

Before the meeting, Matthews shared comments with The Barren County Progress, which will be detailed in next week’s print.

In the upcoming months, the board will begin the search for the next superintendent.

“Every board member has a heart for Barren County Schools, and I know their decisions will be guided by a desire to best serve our students and staff,” Matthews said. “They will be deliberate, diligent, and prayerful in finding the best person to lead the district.”
