Clerk’s Office Update

Metcalfe County Clerk Shannon Fields and her staff at the clerk’s office would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who has recently visited their office to transfer or renew motor vehicle tags.

The staff greatly appreciates the patience and understanding of the customers who have waited calmly as they have navigated Kentucky’s new vehicle registration system, KAVIS. The new system replaces a decades-old system.

Unpredictable glitches have caused the inability to transfer the occasional motor vehicle title, the occasional camper renewal, and at the moment no small utility trailers or the issuance of historical plates.

Kentucky Transportation Secretary Jim Gray has stated publicly on several news networks that they have their IT working on the issues with the KAVIS system, which they call the largest technology update in the state’s history involving a reported 250 million vehicle records.

Meanwhile, County Clerk’s offices across the state are doing everything possible to help take care of their customers’ needs and the system problems are as disheartening to them as it is to you.

Fields and her staff ask that anyone visiting the clerk’s office have these items ready to help speed up the process: Driver’s License, Renewal Card or Registration, and Proof of Insurance – printed, emailed, or faxed to the office.

Again, they thank everyone for their patience and understanding.
