The Lady Hornets traveled to Russell County last Tuesday night for their second district matchup against the Lady Lakers (11-8). After narrowly capturing a victory at home against Russell, Metcalfe expected to see the Lady Lakers’ best in their final regular season matchup. With the Metcalfe faithful overflowing the minuscule area allotted for visitors at Russell County, an issue that all visiting 16th district fans hope to be addressed before the quickly approaching 16th district tournament hosted by Russell County in less than three weeks, the Lady Hornets looked to extend their winning streak over the Lady Lakers to nine consecutive victories.
While the Lady Hornets didn’t execute as well as they may have wished, they did give the first-class effort that has come to be expected from rival Russell County fans. That effort and solid scoring performances from Jozie Allen (16) and Kassady London (15) led the Lady Hornets to a controlling 58-47 victory at the dimly lit confines of Russell County High School.
In their final district game of the regular season, the Lady Hornets hosted the Cumberland County Lady Panthers (13-9) Friday night for homecoming at Metcalfe County High School. After being upset by the Lady Panthers in the finals of the All “A” last month, the Lady Hornets did not have to look far for fuel in the motivation department.
Shots did not fall for Metcalfe early, facing a six-point deficit after the first quarter. After the first, fortunes changed, and the Lady Hornets never looked back. Behind a 19-point performance from Kassady London, the Lady Hornets cruised to a 51-34 victory.
Friday night’s victory secured a 7-1 regular season district record for Metcalfe, firmly placing them atop the 16th district.
To finish the week, the Lady Hornets traveled to Campbellsville for a Saturday night prime-time matchup with the 5th region Lady Eagles (6-12). Campbellsville was able to provide little resistance to a solid team performance from the Lady Hornets, led by Jozie Allen with 16 points. Metcalfe moved to 3-0 on the week, and 8-1 in the calendar year, with a 63-38 victory.
