On the agenda, the board approved the 2024-2025 District Calendar. The first day for students is Monday, August 26, 2024, with the last day of school scheduled for Friday, May 23, 2025. Fall Break is October 7-11, and Spring Break is April 7-11. The complete calendar has been posted at www.metcalfeschools.com.
The board approved a draft budget for the 2024-2025 school year and the 2024 Comprehensive District Improvement Plan. The board also approved special considerations for Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) at Metcalfe County Elementary School.
Superintendent Josh Hurt and the board thanked the community for their outpouring of support for MCHS students Kali Mann and Tanner Acree, who were seriously injured in a crash during Christmas break.
“When you look at the wreckage, it was an absolute miracle that Kali and Tanner were able to survive,” Hurt said. “Many people have reached out to help both families as they begin the long road to recovery. We are blessed to live in a community that repeatedly comes to the aid of our students and staff whenever there is a need.”
The board recognized Student of the Month Adan Wilson, an 8th-grader at Metcalfe County Middle School. MCMS paraeducator Whitney Estes was named Classified Employee of the Month, and MCMS PE teacher Matt Reed was the Certified Employee of the Month.
As part of School Board Recognition Month, Superintendent Hurt thanked all the board members for their service to Metcalfe County Schools. In honor of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on January 9, board members thanked Officers Michael Taylor and Adam Avery for keeping Metcalfe County Schools safe for students, staff, and visitors.
Board recognitions are sponsored by RBS Design Group, Glass & Thompson Insurance, and American Fidelity.
