It looked like the game would go into overtime, but looks can be deceiving.
The Hart County Raiders and the Caverna Colonels both missed opportunities to score a bucket in the final few minutes to possibly win the game. With the Raiders and Colonels fighting for the ball underneath the Caverna basket, a shrill sound echoed through the Hart County gym.
That sound was a referee’s whistle.
Kohnner Trent grabbed a rebound and was sent to the free throw line with 4.3 seconds remaining in the game. Trent, who had an outstanding game, missed the first, but knocked down the second shot from the charity stripe giving the Raiders and Coach Justin Line the 58-57 District 18 victory.
The Colonels’ coach, Steve Barker, called a quick timeout after the free throw went in. Barker drew up a scheme with 4.3 seconds on the clock, but Caverna would have to go the length of the floor for a chance to win.
It was clear Barker wanted the basketball in the hands of playmaker Jaylin Craine, but Jacob Shoulders deflected a pass after the ball was inbounded ending any chance for the Colonels to get off a shot.
Before the whistle blew sending Trent to the line. It had been a chess match between Coach Barker and Coach Line with each coach seeing what the other put on the floor, and then making adjustments in the last few minutes of the game.

Craine answered with 2 points and one from the line. CHS turned the ball over, but HCHS missed any shot attempt to end the 3rd quarter with the Colonels leading 46-39.
