Jasper Q. Crenshaw

LOUISVILLE – Jasper Q. Crenshaw, 81, went to eternal rest on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital. Surrounded by his family and friends. Jasper Crenshaw was born on January 23, 1942, and was a native of Knob Lick, KY.

Jasper grew up working on his family’s farm in Metcalfe County. He graduated from Ralph Bunche High School in 1962. After high school, he worked until he was able to save enough money to attend the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in Louisville, KY. While he was in school, he was introduced to Calvin Winstead (Owner of G. C. Williams Funeral Home, Inc.), who would become his employer and mentor. In 1966, he became a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer, and his professional career of service began.

He was a member of Greater Salem Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over four decades. Mr. Crenshaw was a member of Southern Cross Lodge #39 PHA, Louisville Consistory #41, and is a 33rd Degree Mason. He is a member of the Kentucky Association of Morticians, Inc. as well as the National Funeral Directors Association. He holds lifetime memberships in the NAACP and the Louisville Urban League.

Mr. Crenshaw started working for G.C. Williams Funeral Home, Inc. in 1965 when he was still a student in mortuary school He excelled as a student and served his apprenticeship under his mentor, Mr. Calvin Winstead. Jasper went on to become the General Manager, Vice President, President, and eventually the owner and operator of the establishment. Serving the Greater Louisville Community for the last 30 years afforded Mr. Crenshaw the opportunity to have a positive impact on those he knew and mentored. His reach in this community was far and wide. His love and generosity for others was grand. He will be missed by the Greater Louisville Community at large.

Mr. Crenshaw is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cynthia Crenshaw; one daughter, Tiffany Crenshaw; brothers, Valga Crenshaw (Mamie), Wendell Crenshaw, Dewey Crenshaw, and Niven Crenshaw (Jennifer); sisters, Rosetta Sears and Gloria Bradley (David). His godson, Gary Duane Austin. Several nieces and nephews, and other close relatives and friends.

A celebration of his life will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Greater Salem Baptist Church, 1009 West Chestnut Street. Visitation will be from 4-6 on Sunday at the Church. He will lie in state at G.C. Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 1935 W. Broadway on Friday, December 8, 2023, from 2-5 p.m. for public viewing. Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 11, 2023, at Green Meadow’s Memorial Cemetery.

The family asks that condolences in Mr. Crenshaw’s honor, be expressed in the form of donation to Simmons College of Kentucky.
