There will be a lot of new Hornet faces on the floor this year for Metcalfe County. After graduating five seniors, including two of the 4th region’s best, minutes and scoring will be coming from a young group of Hornets. While Metcalfe might not be a 16th district favorite, they will be looking to defend their crown.
The Hornets competed in two out-of-region preseason scrimmages, traveling to Edmonson County and then hosting Southwestern at home. After averaging under 5 points per game last season for the Hornets, Cade Button dropped 28 at home against Southwestern. Metcalfe looked impressive against Southwestern, with a whole host of Hornets knocking down shots from beyond the arc.
Of Metcalfe’s first 15 games, 13 will be played on the road, including their first three. The Hornets will compete in two-holiday tournaments to finish December, the Berea Holiday Classic, as well as the Campbellsville High School Holiday Classic.
Hornet fans can expect to see a young and deep rotation on the floor from Coach Brockman this season. While inexperience may be a concern early, fans can expect a sharp shooting Hornet core that will compete to maintain their 16th district crown by the end of the season.
The Hornets will begin their season Tuesday night at Warren East.
