Carey Sue Oliver Travis

Carey Sue Oliver Travis, 88, a cherished resident of Glasgow, Kentucky, on November 22, 2023, went home to be with the Lord and join her beloved husband of 64 years, Frederick “Freddie” Lynn Travis, and her son, Captain Todd Oliver Travis.

Born July 2, 1935, in Glasgow, to parents Rondel Raymond Oliver and Nettie Jewel Oliver, “Sue Sue”, as she was affectionately known, weaved love and compassion into the fabric of her family, friends, and her church, passionately teaching Sunday school for over 15 years. Throughout her life, she not only devoted herself to service, but also found joy in entertaining, cooking, golfing, playing games, traveling, and cherishing moments with her family and friends. Despite her known love of the beaches of South Carolina, in her later years she wrote: “There was a point in my life when I thought the beach was my happiest place only to realize that my home on Wingate Avenue brought me the greatest joy, because that’s where we gathered with our family and friends.”

Sue is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Freddie; brother, Rondel “Soup” Oliver; sister, Betty Jane Weaver; and son, Todd. She is survived by her brother, William “Bill” Oliver; son, Scott (Lisa) Travis; daughter, Lynn (Wade) Littrell; grandson, Rick (Karlee) Travis; granddaughter, Alex (Kyle) Rice; grandson, Travis Littrell; granddaughter, Shelby Todd Littrell; and great-granddaughter, Evette “Evie” Travis; daughter-in law, Diana Benoit (Marcel); and son, Luke Benoit; and friends too numerous to mention.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church, 1100 North Race Street, with a memorial service to honor Sue at 2:00 p.m. Burial to follow at the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery, 303 Leslie Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Captain Todd O. Travis, US Marine Corps Scholarship Fund, 292 Alumni Avenue, Bowling Green, KY 42101.
