Shirley Mae Greer

GLASGOW – Shirley Mae Greer, 86, passed peacefully Monday, October 2, 2023, at her home. Born January 3, 1937, in Monrovia, Indiana to the late Faunys D. Meadows and Mary Susan Petitt Meadows. She grew up in Freedom, Kentucky on a farm of tobacco crops and her daddy FD’s champion bird dogs after losing her mother to TB in 1943.

Upon graduation from Temple Hill High School in 1955, she married her forever-loving husband, William Dean Greer of Etoile, Kentucky, and soon started a family raising their only child. Adored as Mrs. Greer by kindergartners of E.B. Terry Elementary, Shirley endearingly worked as a Teacher’s Aide dedicating her creative talents to children for two decades after her own son graduated college.

Following retirement, she and William enjoyed antiquing and adventuring to favorite destinations of country events, food, and music. Together for 60 years, they built a memory-filled home of William’s woodworking, gardening, and Shirley’s many collectibles including her prized biscuit jars, until widowed in 2015. They were founding members of Glasgow Bible Church and once again are faithfully joined at rest in eternal peace of a new heavenly home.

She is survived by one son, William Jeffrey Greer of Nashville, Tennessee, and a younger brother, Dean I. Williams in Plainfield, Indiana. In addition to departed parents and beloved William, Shirley was preceded by an older brother, James Stanley Meadows of Alvin, Texas, and her only sister, Elaine McGuire of Temple Hill, Kentucky.

Funeral services are at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Dearly missed by all who knew her, condolences can be shared with the family at www.afcrowfh.com.
