By T.J. Morgan, Freelance Sports Writer

The Metcalfe County Middle School softball team wrapped up their season by finishing third in the district tournament. The girls concluded the season with a 2-9 record, playing their best softball as the season finished.

Sixth grader Rory Bragg pitched every inning (45.2) for the Lady Hornets. Rory gave up 30 earned runs on 55 hits and 36 walks while striking out 33 batters. Rory finished the season with a 4.59 ERA and a .242 BAA.

Seventh grader LeeElla Boles led the team in numerous offensive categories, including batting average (.381), on-base percentage (.581), slugging (.619), hits (8), extra-base

hits (3), and runs batted in (8).

Eighth-grader Morgan Avery led the Lady Hornets in runs scored (10) and stolen bases (6).

Seventh grader Emma Groce led the squad in walks (10).

Defensively, LeeElla led the team in assists (23) and fielding percentage (.925). Sixth-grade first baseman, Cam Dubree, led the team in put outs (55).

The Lady Hornet squad continued to improve as the softball season progressed. While the final record for 2023 may not be ideal, head coach Billy Clemons will return most of his roster next year, putting the Lady Hornets in position for a successful 2024 season.
