Mrs. Maxine Thornton of Louisville passed away

Mrs. Maxine Thornton of Louisville Kentucky departed this life on September 21, 2023, at Baptist Health Louisville Hospital. She was born February 28, 1950, to the late Richard and Emorgene Sanderson.

Maxine was known for her big heart. She cared for so many and always had a kind word for everyone she met. Maxine would feed anyone and welcome you in her home as a family member. If you needed a cake, pie, greens, potato salad or her homemade vegetable soup, and hot water cornbread, she was there!

Maxine was also in the nursing field as a nurse’s aide and had her own Home Daycare that she loved and as she would say,” help raise “so many children to adults. She was often called Granny and Mama Maxine to her children’s friends, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years Jewell Thornton, brother Johnnie Lee, stepson Rondal Thornton, and grandson McKinely Jr.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories children, Malina J. Kirk, Jewel Miller (Corie) and McKinely Sr. (Latonya). Two stepsons, Steve Thornton, Timothy Thornton, three stepdaughters Vivian Thornton, Carolyn S. Buntyn, Jacqueline Jewell, twelve grandchildren, Scooter Kilgore (Stephanie), TaKara Kilgore (Johnny), Destinee Reed, Michael Rudolph Jr, Marquai Rudolph, Nigel Maxwell, Devin Reed, Kenisha Thornton, Ka’Lizsha Thornton, Marqway Watkins, Leron Brown, Shavez Ford, one brother Mark Nuckols, three nieces, Emillee Wood, Markeysha Nuckols, Tonieka Martin, six great-grandchildren and host of other relatives and friends.

Homegoing Celebration will be held at 11:00 am CST Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Owens Chapel Baptist Church, Cave City, KY., with the Rev. Chris Curry officiating.

Burial will follow in Woodsonville Memorial Gardens, Rowletts, KY.

Visitation after 6:00 pm Friday, September 29, 2023 at Percell and Sons Funeral Home.
