PRESTONBURG – Phillip Daryl Sexton, a native of Barren County, Kentucky, son of the late Challman Sexton and Vada Garmon Sexton, was born on February 20, 1953, in Metcalfe County, Kentucky. He departed this life on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at his residence having attained the age of 70 years, six months, and 17 days of age.
He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired truck driver and was a member of several bass fishing clubs. Phillip enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing, and cooking. His dog, Finnegan, was his best friend.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Sexton.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Cassandra and Kevin Hare of Glasgow; one step-daughter and step son-in-law, Leanna and Charles Newsome of Prestonsburg; six grandchildren, Austin and Megan Honeycutt, Aleigha Hare, Jordan Hare, Chelsea Hare, Derek Newsome, and Patrick Johnson; one great-granddaughter, Marleigh Richardson; one brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Darlene Sexton of Cave City; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Dianne and Douglas Gaines of Tennessee, and Elaine and Brett Thompson of Hardyville; his best friend, Happy Jack Howard and family; plus a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Phillip Daryl Sexton, Jr.; two step-sons, Stephen Johnson and Gary Green; and one brother, Harold Wayne Sexton.
Graveside services for Mr. Phillip Daryl Sexton will be conducted at 2:30 P.M., Central Time, on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at the Hiseville Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 P.M. until the time of the service at the cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy are requested to be made in the form of donations to the American Cancer Society, which can be made at the funeral home. Gupton-Landrum Funeral Home in Greensburg is in charge of the arrangements.
