Metcalfe Golf started their week last Monday traveling to Dale Hollow for the All “A” Classic. Coming off a victory at Dale Hollow the week before, confidence was high surrounding the golf team. The Hornets would shoot a team 164 Monday, twelve strokes over what they had just finished four days before and three strokes behind Monroe and Cumberland’s team scores 161.
Ben Shirley turned in an individual round of 39, putting him into a tie for state tournament qualification and sending him into a playoff. Unfortunately, Mother Nature would work against Ben, the playoff would be suspended for darkness and would revert the tie to a scorecard playoff, leaving Ben just short of the state tournament.
With no downtime after their heartbreaking loss on Monday, the boys would be on the road again on Tuesday at the Green County Country Club. Metcalfe would not be able to rebound, falling to Green by 13 strokes. Hornets were led on the day by Noah Emmit (40), Collin Shive (44), Kailin (47), and Kruz (47).
The Hornets will finally get to return home next week, taking on Allen County on Tuesday and Adair County on Thursday.
