The Glasgow High School Scotties and Coach Jeff Garmon won their season opener at home. The Scotties shutout the LaRue County Hawks 35-0. The season opened with a bang. Scottie senior, Rico Crowder, took an inside pitch from quarterback, Easton Jessie, on the first play from scrimmage and raced 80 yards into the end zone.
Crowder got key blocks from Kaanan Allen, Rad Gentry, Cam Johnson, and Ryne Randall near the line of scrimmage after maneuvering around the right end. Then, Crowder cut back to the left and had one man to beat. He cut back to the far side and avoided that would-be tackler near the 5-yard line and tiptoed down the sideline into the end zone.
GHS senior kicker, Wesley Travis, split the uprights for a 7-0 lead. Travis was 5-of-5 on PAT kicks on the night.
GHS came up empty on their next possession, before Ryan Morgan intercepted a Hawk pass to give the Scotties back the football, setting up Mason Arms’ 3-yard touchdown run, the Scotties second score of the game. David Dale hit the Hawk quarterback just as he was releasing the football, causing a floating duck where Morgan made a nice diving catch for the interception.
Arms’ TD would be the final score of the half. Scotties led 14-0 at the break.
Jessie rushed 25 yards into the end zone lead for the first score of the 3rd quarter to give Glasgow a 21-0.
The Hawks drove down to the 1-yard line on their next possession, but Cam Johnson made a stop on their 3rd down try. On 4th down, pressure from Dale forced an incomplete pass and Glasgow took over on downs.
Jessie raced 69-yards from the ½ yard line to get Glasgow out of a deep hole and set up the next Scotties touchdown. Daylan Thomas rushed 11 yards to open the 4th quarter scoring and give Glasgow a 28-0 lead.
Jessie connected with Jerrick Martin on a 5-yard touchdown pass for the final Glasgow score and the 35-0 shutout victory.
Glasgow finished the game with 283 yards rushing on 24 carries and 157 total yards passing. The Glasgow defense held the Hawks to 114 yards on the ground and 143 yards passing.
Jessie completed 12 of 20 passes for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns with no interceptions. Crowder had 3 catches for 91 yards and a TD. Jerrick Martin had 3 catches for 27 yards and a TD catch. Kaanan Allen had 2 catches for 19 yards.
Jessie rushed 7 times for 138 yards and 1 TD to lead the Scotties’ ground game. Allen rushed 4 times for 68 yards. Arms rushed 5 times for 40 yards and a touchdown.
Daylan Thomas had 3 carries for 27 yards and a TD. Cameron Bulle rushed 4 times for 16 yards.
Arms led the team in tackles with 6. Jacob Brunson, David Dale, and Cam Johnson each had 5 solo tackles.
Kellon Stone and Ryan Morgan each had 4 tackles. Daylon Thomas, Keavian Massey, and Cash Wells each had 3 solo take downs.
