As rumors were circulating in the county that Kingsford was closing, The Herald-News reached out to the parent company of Kingsford Manufacturing Company for verification. A representative of The Clorox Company located in Oakland, CA confirmed the partial closure of the Kingsford facility located at Summer Shade.
Last week, it was verified that employees of Kingsford were given packets containing their final date of employment and other pertinent materials for the layoff and sent home the remainder of the week with notice of a plant meeting to occur in the days following. The news came as a great shock to the employees and the community.
The following official statement was received from The Clorox Company spokesperson regarding their operations in Summer Shade, Kentucky.
As part of our IGNITE strategy, we are constantly evaluating our business and looking for ways to fuel growth by improving profitability and efficiency. We identified excess capacity within our Kingsford network and made the business decision to idle indefinitely the briquetting and packaging lines in Summer Shade, Kentucky, and transition production to one of our four other Kingsford manufacturing facilities. The retort operation and distribution center in Summer Shade will remain operational. As a result of this decision, 67 teammates will be impacted, and we are working closely with them to provide outplacement assistance and ensure a smooth transition.
In response to our question of when the layoff will take effect, the company spokesperson responded.
We will complete transitioning volume from Summer Shade to other Kingsford plants by August 21.
The loss of 67 jobs will greatly impact not only the families, but Metcalfe County and that sentiment was relayed to the representative at The Clorox Company. Keep reading the Herald-News for further updates as they become available.
Record profits and looking for ways to make more at the cost of jobs charcoal is at record price
You haven’t seen anything yet. This Biden world of unlimited goverment spending and unlimited deficits is going to come back on us,in a bad way.Massive inflation will be followed by a lower standard of living for most Americans. They will be forced to cut their spending, causing more companies to lay off workers.
This is ridiculous, the company has never had a layoff and to take almost 100 jobs from hard working employees is a huge mistake. I will never buy anything made by the Clorox company again. I have told everyone that they are only using the people. They care less about their own employees. Makes me sick.
