The Metcalfe Lady Hornets 8u competed against local all-star teams in Edmonton on June 10th. The Battle on the Hill at Edmonton Memorial Park included six 8u softball all-star teams from Metcalfe, Adair, Warren, Taylor, Marion, and Cumberland counties. In the first two games of the tournament, Metcalfe defeated Adair 15-4 and Warren 17-11, earning them the one seed in the gold bracket championship and a matchup against a very talented Marion County.
In a battle fit for a championship game, Metcalfe would head into their last at bat down one run against the Lady Knights. With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, the game tied at 14, down to her last strike, Marley Reed would deliver a line drive to score Payton Morgan for the winning run. Going undefeated on the day, the Lady Hornets were crowned Battle on the Hill champions. Bailey Morgan and Marley Reed were named tournament MVPs, Bailey going a perfect 10-10 on the day, while scoring six runs and driving in six more, and Marley going 8-9, scoring her own six runs and driving in a total of seven Lady Hornets.
The entire Lady Hornet lineup of Bailey Morgan, Payton Morgan, Mya Moore, Marley Reed, Harper Parnell, Brylee Barth, Ava Caffee, Tatum Perkins, Paisley Groce, Skylin Harmon, and Kira Drum delivered throughout the day. A lineup full of bats that opposing pitchers are going to fear facing for years to come.
