Luther Ray

CHALYBEATE – Luther Ray, age 90, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at his residence. The Edmonson County native was born on December 30, 1932, to the late Clyde Noah and Beulah Ellen Renfro Ray. He was married to Charlotte Ray, who survives.

Luther was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean War.  He was a former truck driver, factory worker, and was a member of Beaver Dam Chapel United Baptist Church.  For many years, he was known for his handle, “Wishbone” and talked to friends all over the U.S. on his c.b. radio.  Luther was the family mechanic and could repair anything.  He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and playing with his dogs.

Besides his wife, Charlotte, he leaves to honor his memory— his children, Sheila Durbin (Dennis) of Sunfish, Annette Ray of Auburn, Allen Vincent (Wendi) of Columbia, Mississippi, Allen Ray (Terri) of Rockfield, and Robin Harrison (Shannon) of Cedar Springs; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren that he adored; and his sister-in-law, Janelle Ray of Chalybeate.

He was also preceded in death by his infant daughter, Anita Ruth Ray; and siblings, Clydene Ray, Ruth Hawkins, Carole Sanders, Betty Beckner, and Danny Ray.

Interment will be in Hawkins Cemetery with graveside military honors by Nesbit Alexander Memorial Post #6937 VFW. Memorial contributions may be made to Hawkins Cemetery Fund, c/o Timmy Davis, 419 Roy Davis Road, Smiths Grove, KY  42171.
