William Burks Cawthon

CAVE CITY – William “Buttons” Burks Cawthon, age 84, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023, at Signature Healthcare of Hart County, surrounded by his family. Bill was born in Horse Cave, Kentucky on April 16, 1939, a son of the late William Houston Cawthon and Carrie (Hay) Cawthon Smith.

Bill married Sara Smith Boyd in 1964, she preceded him in death in 2021. He proudly served his country in The United States Army, and retired from Hunt Tractor Company, after thirty-one as Service Department Manager. Bill was an avid UK Fan, he enjoyed woodworking, trips to the ocean, and doing jigsaw puzzles in his spare time.

He is survived by two daughters, Pam Barnes and her husband Jerry of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Jennifer Cawthon of Park City, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Kristin Barnes, Kelly Barnes, Victoria Barnes and husband Sam, and Adam Cawthon; one sister-in-law, Emogene Madison, of Park City; along with one niece, and two nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, William Houston Cawthon and Carrie Hay Cawthon Smith, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Sara Smith Boyd.

Graveside services will be conducted at Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow. There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home prior to services.
