Donnie Bruce Tomes
BIG REEDY – Donnie Bruce Tomes, age 74, departed this life with his family by his side on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at The Hospice House in Bowling Green. The Edmonson County native was born on February 28, 1949, to the late Emery Sherman and Dorothy Huff Tomes. He was married to his best friend of fifty-two years, Gail Stice Tomes, who survives.
Donnie was saved as a 10-year-old boy at Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he became an elder in 1974 and remained a faithful member. He was a 1966 graduate of Edmonson County High School. Donnie served in the United States Army from 1968-1970 where he received three medals for his time served in Vietnam.
Donnie held several occupations throughout his years, but he was most proud of and passionate about being a farmer on his family’s farm in Big Reedy.
Besides his wife, Gail, he leaves to honor her memory— his daughters, Leah Dawn Geary (John) and Courtney Layne Clark (Curt) of Big Reedy; five grandchildren, Noah Geary, Isaac Geary, Abigail Geary, Caleb Geary, and Cooper Clark; two siblings, Dwight Tomes (Jayne) of Iowa and Letha Drury (Mike) of Versailles; along with many other family and friends.
Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Church or Hospice of Southern Kentucky.
VISITATION: 1—7 PM, Wednesday, May 17, 2023, and 9 AM– 1:30 PM, Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Patton Funeral Home Brownsville Chapel
FUNERAL SERVICE: 2 PM, Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church
