Allen signs with EKU

By: T.J. Morgan, Freelance Sports Writer

In front of friends, family, teammates, and the community, Metcalfe standout Jax Allen signed his letter of intent to play basketball at Eastern Kentucky University Friday.

Jax finished this past season as the 4th region’s 2nd leading scorer, leading the Hornets in points (20.6 ppg) and rebounds (7.6 rpg). He finished his Hornet career with 1,620 points, 694 rebounds, and a part in 74 wins, an All-A region championship, two district championships, 3 All-A teams, 3 All District teams, and an All Region team.

When little kids are in the driveway playing out imaginary games, they always have a dream school, and for Jax, that school has always been EKU. While Jax put in the hard work, he let everyone know Friday that the glory for his accomplishments belongs to God.

Jax joins an exclusive club of Metcalfe boys basketball players to earn the opportunity to play division one basketball. The number of Metcalfe County natives to accomplish such a feat can be counted on one hand, with Jax being the first since Metcalfe legend J.P. Blevins.

However, maybe his most important accomplishment could be viewed in the eyes of all the young Hornets lining the baseline during Hornet warmups this past season. Jax provided an excellent example of a Hornet student athlete, creating the blueprint for all those young Hornets, filled with admiration, to follow.
