Jerry Wayne Underwood
GLASGOW – Jerry Wayne Underwood, age 74, died Monday, April 24, 2023, at TJ Samson Community Hospital. Jerry was the son of the late Andrew Howard and Viola Garrett Underwood. He was born on Christmas Eve 1948 in Etoile, in Barren County, KY.
Jerry was a foreman with Sorensen Industries for over 20 years, Jerry later established Underwood Construction where he built numerous homes around Glasgow and Barren County. Jerry had a love for laying tile and later in life built custom showers, backsplashes, and granite countertops. He retired from Glasgow Independent Schools; he had a great love for all the kids he transported over the years. Jerry was a member of Glasgow Baptist Church.
Celebrating his life and carrying his light are his wife, Loretta Underwood; two children, Chris Underwood and Cory Underwood both of Glasgow; nephew, Ronnie Miller; nieces, Marcia (Miller) Hubbard and Lacey Ball all of Glasgow; two stepsisters, Linda Combs (Martin) and Becky Lee (Mike) all of Glasgow; two stepsons, Wesley Dunaway (Kristian) of Hopkinsville, Stephan Dunaway (Leme) of Owensboro; also numerous cousins, great nieces, and nephews as well as many great friends that he loved dearly. Jerry loved his puppies too, he leaves his Goldendoodles, his furry friends, and his buddies, Cody, Cady, JJ, and Arlo.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Lisa Calhoun Underwood; stepmother, Mayoma Underwood; sisters, Carolyn Underwood Norris and Donella Underwood Bowles.
The funeral service for Mr. Underwood will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 1:00 PM at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM Thursday, April 27th, and on Friday morning until the time for the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Jerry Underwood to Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy (CAA) Research Program at Massachusetts General Hospital. www.angiopathy.org/supports-us Jerry was diagnosed with CAA in 2021, his family would like to thank his caregivers Dr. William Thornberry, Dr. Aaron McMurtray, and Vanderbilt Medical Center.
