The Edmonton Metcalfe County Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce Lynn Hawkins as the recipient of the Metcalfe County Educator of the Year Award.

This year marks the twenty-second year an educator has been honored with this distinguished award.

Lynn Hawkins was honored at the Senior Celebrity Banquet on April 12th, and introduced by her daughter, Harley Hawkins McIntyre. Harley has followed in her mother’s footsteps and is a teacher in the Warren County School District.

Lynn Caffee Hawkins was born and raised in Edmonton, KY on a tobacco and dairy farm. She was active in the FFA, and she always knew she wanted to do something related to agriculture and to still live in Metcalfe County. FFA made such a positive difference in her life, and she wanted to be able to encourage other students to take part in the organization. Lynn met her future husband, Harvey Hawkins on an FFA trip. The couple were high school sweethearts and married after Lynn finished college. Lynn and Harvey Hawkins have three children, Harley, HJ, and Hayden.

Lynn attended WKU and double majored in Agriculture and English. Soon after graduation from WKU, she landed her first teaching position in Metcalfe County at the middle school as an English and Literature teacher.

In the 1994-1995 school year, Lynn and Letitia Hughes chartered the first middle school FFA chapter in the state of Kentucky. Lynn taught at Metcalfe County Middle School from 1994 until 2007 when she transferred to the high school to teach agriculture.

Since 2007, she has taught Agriculture, Advanced Placement English, Dual Credit English, and for the last four years, she has been facilitating and teaching the Farm to Table Program for the elementary, middle, and high school. No matter what she is teaching you can count on her project-based learning- opportunities whether that be organizing and running every senior through mock job interviews, taking the forestry team to the National FFA Convention, raising livestock, cooking green eggs and ham for Read Across America week, or seeding plants.

Lynn has initiated and planned countless opportunities and activities for the youth of Metcalfe County. The Dustin Worthington heifer chain for Metcalfe County, farm safety days, running the school farm where she has a multitude of livestock animals, fishponds, a greenhouse, and the corn maze to name a few.

Metcalfe County is fortunate to have Mrs. Lynn Hawkins in our school system, congratulations to the 2023 Educator of the Year!
