Thomas Michael Candela

GLASGOW – Thomas Michael Candela, 76,  passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at his residence. He was born January 27, 1947, in Manhattan, New York to the late Michael Thomas Candela and Santa Morici Candela. Thomas served in the United States Army and was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War during the TET OFFENSIVE between 1967 and 1968. He lived and worked in South Philadelphia and the Northeast. After working various jobs as DJ on WJWS Radio in South Hill, Virginia, and a waiter at a local restaurant called TonyGeorge at 3rd and Bank Street between Chestnut and Market, Thomas joined Philadelphia’s finest in 1977. He worked in the 16th district for thirteen years before transferring to the 2nd district, where he retired. Thomas had many hobbies including, singing, whittling, studying space, and writing, in which he self-published his book, Abused.

Survivors include his three sons, Armando Joseph Candela, Anthony Thomas Candela (Lauren), and Joseph Michael Candela; two grandchildren, Evelyn Theresa Candela and Vincent Anthony Candela; three sisters, Linda Maude (Charles), Angie Rizzitiello, and Sandra Bellon; one brother, Frank Bellon; a loving niece he adored, Crystal Maude-Smith (Robert); godchild, Joshua Maude; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 20 years, Theresa Ann Carr Candela, and two brothers, Joseph Candela, and Carlo Bellon.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

The funeral service for Mr. Candela will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 28, 2303, at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by DAV Chapter #20. Visitation will be on Monday from 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM and on Tuesday morning until the time for the service at the funeral home. A. F.
