Juanita Marie “Peg” Nichols

Juanita Marie “Peg” Nichols, 97, formerly of Glasgow, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Colonial Health & Rehab Center in Bardstown. Born January 15, 1926, in Hamilton, Illinois, she was the second child born to John Thurston and Gladys Virginia Nichols Mayes.

In April 1945 during WWII, Juanita married Bennie Carl Nichols who preceded her in death. She was a loving wife and mother; a homemaker; a quilter; and bookkeeper. Her hobbies were reading and coloring. In 1984, she was baptized and joined The Primitive Baptist Church, an inspiration and joy for her the rest of her life.

Her survivors include a dedicated and loving daughter and son-in-law, Carla Marie (Nichols) Evans and Thomas David Evans of Bardstown, KY; five sisters: Dolores Eileen Jarvis of Louisville, Clara Bernadine Gehrig of Illinois, Caroljean Smith of Glasgow, Grace Louise and husband Reginald Ward of Glasgow, and Karen Sue Peden of Texas; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Lee and husband Steve Peregrin of Illinois; two brothers: Norman Edward, Sr. and wife Donna Sue of Glasgow, and Jerry Lynn of Glasgow; four brothers-in-law: Clem Jarvis of Louisville, Carol Eugene Gehrig of Illinois, Stanley Eugene Smith of Glasgow, and S. Ray Peden of Texas; and a special cousin, Ruth Yvonne (Wood) Baird of Illinois.

The family extends a special thank you to Peg’s next-door neighbors, John P., Jr. and Elizabeth Ann Likens for their generosity, caring, and helpfulness.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Bowles Cemetery off Vernon School Road. Arrangements entrusted to Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.
