With enough shopping, one can weather the chilly December temps by moving door-to-door around the Edmonton Square.
This is what many shoppers did last Sunday during the 2022 Shop around the Square event hosted by the Edmonton-Metcalfe Chamber of Commerce.
Many businesses around the square are filled with Christmas lights and festive window decorations.
The event included pictures with Santa Claus, Caroling for Christ carolers, and plenty of stores open for finding the perfect gifts.
Shoppers were provided a ticket to be punched for each participating business they visited. If all locations were visited, those individuals were entered into a drawing for $350 Metcalfe Money divided between five winners.
Wall Works, The Auction Barn, the Historic Jail and Metcalfe County Museum, Farming Up Collectibles, Pam’s $5.00 Bling at MainStreet Barber Shop, and the Edmonton-Metcalfe Chamber of Commerce all participated in the weekend event.
Hillbilly BBQ and Tropical Breeze Shaved Ice set up to vendor and Subway kept their doors open for food as well.
Caroling for Christ carolers sang at the Historic Courthouse Steps and around the nativity scene, which was followed by prayer.
After the shoppers were spent, many headed over to Edmonton City Hall to enjoy hot cider, cookies, and live Christmas music by the Hornets’ Nest Pickers. To conclude the evening, Mayor Doug Smith flipped the switch to illuminate the 14-foot Christmas tree adorned with ornaments, lights, and topped with a bright shining star.
