On August 19, the Hart County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint regarding a murder-for-hire scheme in Hart County.
The investigation revealed that Warren Johnson, a 45-year-old white male of Horse Cave, had solicited an unnamed individual to murder his estranged wife.
Johnson, while incarcerated at the Hart County Jail, arranged payment and provided strategies to the unnamed individual to carry out the crime. The Hart County Sheriff’s Office then derived a plan to stage the death of the victim to further the investigation.
The victim was transported to a secure location while multiple law enforcement agencies, Emergency Medical Services, and the Hart County Coroner carried out the staged death. After a compelling amount of evidence was obtained, the Hart County Sheriff’s Office obtained arrest warrants for Warren Johnson.
Johnson was charged with Murder -Domestic Violence (Solicitation) and Retaliating Against a Participant in the Legal Process.
The investigation is ongoing and is being led by Detective Eli Dennis of the Hart County Sheriff’s Office. Detective Dennis was assisted by Sheriff Jeff Wilson, Munfordville Police Department, Hart County EMS, Hart County Coroner’s Office, Hart County Jail, Kentucky State Police, and U.S. Homeland Security Investigations.
