ELLIS GARY “DOC” HOGAN

Ellis Gary “Doc” Hogan, 72, was called home to our Lord on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

Born October 24, 1949, in Louisville, Kentucky to Ellis and Myrtle Hogan. Doc was a unique and caring individual who touched the lives of all who knew him. He raised seven loving children, including two stepchildren (Heather and Westley). However, if you were to ask him, he may have said all the babies he delivered and treated were considered family.

He was a graduate of Caverna High School. Doc went to Harding University for his undergraduate studies and the University of Louisville for medical school. He loved being a physician and truly had a passion for medicine. His last wish was to donate his body to science and help with future medical research.

He was a member of the Cave City Church of Christ and loved singing. When he moved to be with his daughters in Ohio, he became a member of Bridgeway Church. He loved visiting the local nursing home and singing. The Pastor at Bridgeway would constantly try to stump everyone with lesser-known hymns and there was never a time that he could get one over on Doc. He knew them all and always had fun with that. Doc was a true Bible Scholar-always studying!

When he wasn’t reading his bible, you would find him getting amped up for Kentucky Wildcats basketball games. He had his tv on and pre-game radio playing. If there was a pre-game to the pre-game’s pregame, he would be listening to it all. If he wasn’t watching UK Basketball, you would find him watching cooking shows, as he loved to cook. The year of the Turducken Thanksgiving will go down in history for sure!

He was one of the smartest people on earth, yet never quite grasped how to use a tv remote. He, however, excelled at ordering every pay-per-view movie and sports package possible. We learned to know every DirectTV customer service rep by name because of Doc. He always had a way of bringing people together!

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sonya; parents, Ellis and Myrtle; and brother Darryl.

He is survived by his children, Byron, Laura (Bryan), Kyle, Brooke (Mark), Amber, and Hannah; his grandchildren, Kelsey, Brailyn, Sawyer, Harper, Maci, Drew, Finn, and Ellie; his stepmother, Bertha; his sister, Pam; and his brother, Tony; as well as his niece, Emily; nephew Michael, and nephew Ben.

A Celebration of Doc’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel, 410 North Dixie Highway, Cave City, Kentucky 42127. Times for visitation and the service will be announced and posted later. Doc always had an open-door policy and loved having visitors and meeting with people. So, in true Doc fashion, anyone who wishes to come, all are welcome!

Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.

You will truly be missed. It was an honor to have worked with you for all of those years in your four offices, the old Theatre building in Edmonton to the new office in Edmonton, and then the office in Glasgow as well as the office in Scottsville. Thank you for passing along your knowledge to those who worked with you. I’m sure that you will hear God say “ Well done”
