Metcalfe County Middle School students enjoyed an educational day on April 28 at Farm Safety Day held at the Harvey and Lynn Hawkins farm.

There were over 30 safety exhibits and students rotated through the booths and completed an educational work packet. Exhibitors included Farmers RECC (electrical safety), Edmonton State Bank (ag financing), Metcalfe Farm Alliance (weed eater and mower safety), Robert Acree (ATV safety), Bob’s Auto (tire safety), Bobby Smith (safe horse handling), and many other local businesses.

High School students from the culinary, health sciences, agriculture, and biology classes showcased their demonstrations on proper handwashing, how to drive nails, how to plant flowers, and how to prevent cross-contamination of foods.

The students enjoyed grilled burgers prepared by the Hawkins family and agriculture teacher, Josh Jones.

A special thank you to all the exhibitors, MCHS teachers Kelly Shaw, Josh Jones, and Tonya Howard for making this a successful event.
