Primary Election: What you need to know

Metcalfe County Clerk Shannon Fields would like to update everyone on the processes for the upcoming Primary Election on May 17, 2022.

To qualify for a mail-in ballot:

The voter must meet one of the following criteria to request a mail-in ballot.

  • Be in the military or an overseas voter;
  • Be unable to go vote in person on election day due to age, disability, or illness;
  • Temporarily residing out of state;
  • Student who resides outside the county due to school;
  • Will be absent from the county on all the days on which all-in person voting is conducted;
  • Voter is incarcerated but not convicted;
  • Participant in the SOS Confidentiality Protection Program; or
  • The voter meets the requirements of a Medical Emergency Ballot.

To obtain a mail-in ballot:

Once the voter’s qualification is established, registered voters can go to govoteky.com or call the Metcalfe County Clerk’s office at 270-432-4821 to request an Absentee Mail Ballot until May 3, 2022.

Where to send mail-in ballots:

Ballots may be mailed back to Metcalfe County Clerk’s Office, P. O. Box 25, Edmonton, KY 42129 or use the drop box located inside the Metcalfe County Clerk’s office for your convenience.

Excused in-person voting:

The voter must meet one of the following criteria in order to use excused in-person voting.

  • Student who resides outside the county due to school;
  • Voter or voter’s spouse has surgery/hospitalization scheduled during early voting and Election Day;
  • Military
  • Voter is in the last trimester of pregnancy;
  • Temporarily residing out of state;
  • Due to age, disability, or illness;
  • Absent all the days on which all-in person voting is conducted; May 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, and 11, from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Metcalfe County Clerk’s Office (new Government building) at 201 North Main Street, Edmonton, KY.

Early in-person voting:

Anyone can vote early on May 12, 13, and 14, from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Metcalfe County Clerk’s Office (new Government building) at 201 North Main Street, Edmonton, KY. There will be no in-person voting available on Monday, May 16th.

Election Day voting:

Voters MUST go to your original precinct locations within the county (pre-Covid locations) on May 17th from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.

To verify your voter record, please visit govote.ky.gov. In the 2022 Primary Election, Democrats and Republicans are eligible to vote, there are no non-partisan races on the Primary Ballot. The deadline to register to vote was April 18th, 2022. The deadline to change your party affiliation was December 31, 2021. If you changed your party affiliation after that date you are not eligible to vote in the 2022 Primary Election.

Voter Process for ALL In-Person Voting:

(Election Day, early voting, and excused absentee)

*Bring your requried identification.

* Have your ID ready, Driver’s License is the most efficient method to scan.

*Election Officers verify your identity and you will be issued a paper ballot, voters with disabilities may use an ADA ballot marking device which prints a paper ballot to be scanned.

*You will mark your ballot, scan it, and cast your vote.
