MARY LOU JESSIE

EDMONTON – Mary Lou Jessie, 72, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at home in Edmonton Wednesday, November 24, 2021. Mary was born May 17, 1949, to the late Neal Smith and Leola Gardner Smith of Edmonton who survives.

Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tony, and two brothers, Tommy Neal Smith, and David “Bo” Smith.

Mary was a member of the Edmonton Worship Center. She was a devout Christian and lived her life daily for the Lord Jesus Christ. At the time of her passing, she was employed at Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems for 33 years. Mary fought a good fight and even in the last days was thinking only of others telling everyone, “Don’t be sad.”

Besides her mother, she is survived by her son, Tim VanZant, and his wife Jeannie whom she considered a very special daughter in law and Jeannie referred to her as mom; three grandsons whom she adored, Quade and Jarad VanZant both of Bowling Green, Andrew (Daley) Savage of Summer Shade; a brother, Joe Smith of Edmonton; four sisters, Faye (Dannie) Word, Patricia “Prissy” White, and Brenda Smith all of Edmonton, and Bonnie (Milt) Harbour of Mississippi. Several nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mary will be held at 1:00 PM, Sunday, November 28, 2021, at Butler Funeral Home with interment in the VanZant Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday (Her words, “My night in the White House”) from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and after 9:00 AM Sunday.
