Metcalfe County High School announced June 7 that Mielle DiStefano would be the school’s new head volleyball coach. She takes over for Whitney Estes, who stepped down last season.
DiStefano was the assistant coach under Estes and previously served as head coach from 2015 until 2017. DiStefano also coached volleyball at Metcalfe County Middle School for two seasons. In 2007, while coaching at LaRue County High School, she was named 5th Region Coach of the Year.
“I am excited to start a new season as the Lady Hornet’s head coach, and I anticipate a great season next year,” DiStefano said. “Our goal is to improve every time we step on the floor, and we expect to make runs at the All “A” Classic and 16th District Championships. Our community supports us, and we need to put a great product on the floor for them.”
Metcalfe County High School will continue to host its Lady Hornet Volleyball Tournament as well as freshman and junior varsity tournaments. DiStefano said she would like to start a youth volleyball program for elementary and middle school students. “We want our girls to learn the fundamentals at an early age, so they continue to grow at each grade level,” DiStefano said.
Along with coaching volleyball, DiStefano serves as a guidance counselor at Metcalfe County Middle School. This fall, she will start her 12th year as an educator in the Metcalfe County School District.
