After careful planning, the Metcalfe County Public Library Board of Trustees and staff have announced that the aforementioned expansion will soon be underway.

“The project involves a new addition and renovation to the current facility, which will expand library services for all of Metcalfe County,” said Kasey Warf, Director.

The new addition will incorporate a new rear entrance, a 1,196 square foot community space equipped with a kitchen, a quiet study/reading room, a family restroom, and expanded storage. The current library facility will be renovated to include a multi-purpose meeting space for programs and activities, a relaxed seating area, a small conference room, and an expanded children’s area.

The expansion will allow for the following features:

There will be a total of 5 new meeting areas and community spaces throughout your new library which includes a quiet sitting area, a small conference room, a study room, a new 70+ capacity community space, and a “Makery”. There will also be a small outdoor space off the new entrance.

“A Makery is a traditional multi-purpose room and innovative library maker space. Think of it as a space for people to work on projects and share ideas, equipment, and knowledge. The Makery will feature a variety of technologies available for public use,” Warf said.

Also, the new community room may be booked after library hours, with access to a kitchenette and family restroom.

Meeting spaces will be equipped with movable tables and chairs, electric outlets, data ports, videoconferencing equipment, and access to the library’s Wi-Fi. With additional meeting spaces, your library will expand adult, children, and teen programming.

New technology, including public access stations, which will include laptops, wireless printing, copy, and fax.

An expanded collection of materials, 35,000+ volumes including popular and bestselling titles, local history and genealogy collections, large- print, audio, and e-books, and also 30+ new parking spaces.

Currently, construction is projected to start in July 2021 and be completed by June 2022, however, this date and timeline is subject to change.

In preparation for this expansion, patrons need to be aware of upcoming changes.

The MCPL will be closed June 1st – June 12th with the purpose of moving everything into a temporary location at the former Metcalfe County Elementary School library (across from the blue gym) at 206 Education Way Suite 2. Edmonton, KY 42129 starting June 14th.

“All of your library services will continue to be available,” Warf said.

The library invites patrons to stop by and see the complete Q&A list, and take a look at the library’s future floor plan.
