Not only did the Lady Hornets dish out Russell County’s Lady Lakers their first loss of the season but it’s also the first time Metcalfe’s Softball Program has beat Russell since May 2nd, 2013, according to KHSAA.

“This was a really good win for us,” says Lady Hornet Head Coach Brian Garrett. Bailee Garrett, Jaycie Harper, and Lily Reece all got good hits to bring in 4 RBI’s. Senior McKinley Crain also got a huge RBI with a strategic sacrifice hit. Right fielder, Lily Reece, hit a huge triple. Braelyn Davis and Brittany Harper both had heart-stopping stolen bases.

The Lady Hornets are now at a 5-4 season. “We’re working hard and getting better but we’re giving away too many free bases. Anytime you give free bases they are going to make you pay. We’re doing well on the mound, we aren’t walking many but we have to get more solid on defense” says Coach Garrett. This win over Russell will be a huge mentality boost for the Lady Hornets.
