May Dell Cummins Whitlow

RANDOLPH – May Dell Cummins Whitlow, age 84, passed away March 23, 2021, in her home with family. May Dell was the sixth child born to the late Morad Cecil and Grace Ellen Strode Cummins of the Randolph community. May Dell married her childhood sweetheart, Philip Curtis Whitlow, to whom she was a devoted wife and mother to their five children. Together they raised their family and farmed in the Randolph community until Philip passed away in April of 2017.

Surviving her are their children, Ann (Peter) Acree, Jesse (Gale) Whitlow, Paul Whitlow, Sam Whitlow (Kimberly DeWeese) all of Randolph, and David Whitlow (John Scheller) of Evansville, Indiana. There are fourteen grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a special niece Sondra Nuckols; and a host of nieces and nephews who also survive her.

Along with her parents and husband; she was preceded in death by four sisters, Edna Marie Cummins, Ruby Hegseth, Patty Nell Williams, and Lucille Cummins; four brothers, Clarence, Virgil, Tom, and Alonzo Cummins; one sister-in-law, Ruth Cummins; two brothers – in –law, Earling Hegseth, Lewis Williams; and special lifelong friend Jean Blakeman Rhea.

A private family funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, March 27, 2021, at McMurtrey Funeral Home in Summer Shade with Brother Gary Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Randolph.

Visitation for the public will be Saturday, March 27, from 10:00 A.M. till 2:00 P.M. Face masks are required, social distancing practiced, and no food or drinks are allowed.

The family wishes to take this opportunity to thank all her doctors who cared for her during this journey with cancer: Dr. Pamela Smith, Dr. Craig Tyree, Dr. Ian Waheed, Dr. Richard Clouse, Hosparus Care of Kentucky, countless nurses, and McMurtrey Funeral Home for their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her loving memory to the American Cancer Society and can be left at the funeral home.
