Smithsonian Exhibit visits SCKCC

The South Central Kentucky Cultural Center in partnership with the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library is proud to announce that a Smithsonian exhibit will be coming to the SCKCC.

 

This unique exhibit’s arrival in Glasgow is possible thanks to the Kentucky Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities grant.

 

The exhibit, Crossroads: Change in Rural America, will be open from April 10th to May 15th.

 

The following activities will be held in conjunction with the exhibit:

 

Activity – YouTube virtual program – Mammoth Cave, The Cave Wars

Date and Time – Begin February 26, 2021

Location -South Central Kentucky Cultural Center and Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library YouTube channels, check Facebook for link.

 

Activity – Exhibit – Schools/Education of the Barrens

Date and Time -April 10 – May 15, 2021

Location – South Central Kentucky Cultural Center – 2nd floor.

 

Activity –Virtual – Speaker: Sam Terry -History of Schools/Education in the Barrens

Date and Time – filmed from the Cultural Center’s One Room School Exhibit on May 3rd

Activity – Tour guide – Sam Terry – Cemetery Tour Re –Changes in Rural South-Central KY

Date and Time – April 24, 2021, at 10:00 AM

Location -Glasgow Municipal Cemetery at 10:00 AM, Must make reservations by calling the South-Central Kentucky Cultural Center – limited to 20 – 25 people.

 

Activity – Book Discussion – Hannah Coulter

Date and Time – Will begin April 27th at 6:30 PM

Location – Mary Wood Weldon Public Library/Zoom contact the library for more information.

 

Activity– Basket Making History/demonstration– Virtual program Beth Hester

Date and Time – Will be filmed April 15 at 6:30 PM

Location – Recorded program will be available on the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library and SCKCC Facebook and YouTube pages.

 

Activity – Speaker/demonstration of Jelly canning and Freezing – virtual program by Latoya Drake

Date and Time –Microsoft Teams Virtual Program April 16 at 2:00 PM

Activity – Booklet E41 Voices of the Segregated Past printing and distribution

Location – Copies for viewing will be available at the SCKCC and Library April 10 – May 15, 2021

 

Activity – Virtual Art Show – Theme “My Rural Home”

Time and Date – Available on library YouTube March 22

Location – will be virtual through the Weldon Memorial Library and SCKCC Facebook and YouTube pages.
