18th Annual Celebration to honor Veterans is set for November 10
Veterans of South Central Kentucky will be honored with a Drive Thru parade on Tuesday, November 10 in Glasgow when South Central Bank hosts its annual Salute to Veterans Celebration.
For nearly two decades, South Central Bank has recognized those who have answered the call to serve in the United States military with a special event, The Veterans Breakfast. It is a time when those who wore the uniform were invited to come together and be honored for serving our nation. That tradition will continue Tuesday, November 10, however, the celebration will take on a different look this year.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Veterans Celebration will be an outdoor event with social distancing and safety measures being implemented.
This year, the Veterans Celebration will be in the form of a reverse parade. Veterans throughout the community are invited to drive through a marked parade route in the South Central Bank Operations Center parking lot. Instead of floats and decorated vehicles moving along a route, parade participants will be stationary and socially distant as Veterans drive through to cheers, waves and expressions of gratitude while remaining inside of their vehicle. A complimentary bagged breakfast will be provided to Veterans.
South Central Bank Glasgow President, Owen Lambert believes the event is a small but important tribute to those who have fearlessly defended our country.
“We owe so much to our Veterans,” said Lambert. “Without their sacrifice, none of us would have the freedom and liberties we enjoy every single day. We owe these men and women a tremendous debt of gratitude not only on this day but every day of the year.”
The event will begin with the presentation of colors, playing of the National Anthem, Taps, and special remarks. Veterans will then proceed in their vehicles through a marked parade route.
The safety of everyone is a top priority. Social distancing and masks will be required by all spectators and participants in the parade. Parade spectators will remain in their vehicles at all times.
The event will take place on Tuesday, November 10 at the South Central Bank Operations Center, 501 S. L. Rogers Wells Blvd., beginning promptly at 7 am and concluding at 9 am. The Glasgow Police Department will be directing traffic in and out of the parking lot at Cleveland Avenue.
