RUTH GEAN GROCE SMITH CAPPS
SUMMER SHADE – Ruth Gean Groce Smith Capps, 88, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at T J Samson Hospital. Born July 20, 1932, in Peytonsburg, KY she was a daughter of the late John and Noxie (Perkins) Groce.
Ruth worked at sewing factories and farmed. She was an active member of her community helping with Beaumont Cemetery, Branstetter Park, and an active member of the Goodson Chapel Methodist Church.
Survivors include one brother, Preston (Judy) Groce, Edmonton; 2 stepsons, Stevie (Glenda) Capps, Summer Shade, and Phillip (Rachel) Capps, Shepherdsville; nieces, Connie Jo (Kenny) Humes and Sharon Norris (Chuck); great-nieces and nephews, Casey (Brian) Brown, Kaleb Humes, and Hadley Humes; and several step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death, besides her parents, were her 2 husbands, Rondell Smith and James Capps; one brother, Ewing Groce; and sister, Betty Norris.
A private family funeral, with limited capacity, will be held Sunday, October 18, 2020, at 2:00 P.M. at the McMurtrey Funeral Home with Brothers Joe Wilcoxson and Meryl Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Beaumont Cemetery. A walk through visitation will be Saturday, October 17, 2020, 4:00-8:00 P.M. and on Sunday, October 18, 2020, 8:00 A.M.-1:30 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Beaumont Cemetery at McMurtrey Funeral Home. Due to Covid restrictions, masks must be worn, temperature taken, and social distancing encouraged.
