Alvetta Mattingly Tomes   1943 – 2019

Alvetta Mattingly Tomes, age 76, of Sunny Point, KY departed this life on Monday, July 15, 2019 at Greenview Regional Hospital. The Grayson County native was born on May 18, 1943 to the late Erb and Gladys Collins Mattingly. She was married to her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Frank Tomes, who survives.

Alvetta was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She was a homemaker while her children grew up and later in life worked for Walmart. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she attended with her family. Alvetta loved and cherished her family and always provided a loving and stable home for them.

Besides her husband, she leaves to honor her memory— four children, Doug Tomes (Pam) of Clarksville, TN, Dr. Keith Tomes (Christy) of Ridgecrest, CA, Sherri Forester (Paul) of Sunny Point and Lisa Hunt (Paul) of Sunny Point; thirteen grandchildren, Jeremy Lannom (Mychele), Cody Lannom (Megan), Mariel Beth Tomes, Christopher Tomes (Kaylee), Kyle Tomes (Shaylee), Stephanie Tomes, Caleb Tomes, Julia Tomes, Calvin Forester, Olivia Forester, Emery Hunt, Abby Hunt and Johnny Hunt; six great-grandchildren; five siblings, Russell Mattingly (Lois) of Sadler, Dorothy Key (Walton) of Bowling Green, Roberta Vance of Florida, Bonnie Rodriguez (Ray) of Florida and Anita Coe (Norman) of Louisville as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Dorlis Whobrey, Donnie Mattingly and Charles Mattingly.

Interment will be in Sunny Point Cemetery.
