Last week Metcalfe County Elementary School observed Read Across America, and Dr. Seuss‘s birthday and legacy with an array of activities, including Family Literacy Night.

On Family Literacy Night kids played bingo, “camped” with Suess while the cat and the hat read stories, and dined on s’mores and hotdogs. The hallways were colorfully adorned with everything Suess-inspired with student works from every class on display.

Throughout the week people from the community visited classrooms and read stories, and green eggs and ham were served to the kids.

Guests from the library and extension office attended the family literacy night so children could obtain library cards and sample soup.

Benita Bell, a retired teacher, visited class and read a story.

Superintendent Benny Lile also read to the children.
