District Tourney time
It is almost that time of year for some basketball. District Tournament to be exact. Edmonson County High School will be hosting District Tourney this year. Athletic Director, Kyle Pierce had this to say, “We’re really looking forward to hosting the girls & boys district tournament. There is a lot of work and planning that goes into it before the ball gets tipped off on Monday night. We expect great crowds each night as the games are extremely competitive. We know every team has worked extremely hard this season. We want to provide a great atmosphere for our teams and fans to have the best experience possible. So let’s pack the gym and support our girls and boys teams.” Pierce also wanted to make sure everyone knew that during district play, there are a few changes from the regular season play. “First, we are going to have the main gate at the front doors of the high school, just like you would go to the office. We will also have gates around the backside of the gym, using Door K by the FFA rooms, and Door Q which allow you to park behind the middle school gym. Since the tournament receipts are shared with other schools, there are no passes that are honored. This includes coaches cards, season passes, reserved seats, district employees, etc. There are no signs, banners, posters, etc. allowed into the building during the district tournament. Admission is $5 per night for general admission and $7 for the reserved blue seats.” said Pierce.
Head Boys Basketball Coach Mac McClintic said, “Our boys have worked really hard all year. We’ve shown flashes of being a really good basketball team. Butler County will be a good match-up for us. We split with them in the regular season with them winning at their place, while we beat them at home in late January. They are well coached and will have a good game plan coming into the game. We want to be playing our best basketball over the next few days and hopefully weeks.”
Girls Basketball Head Coach Bart Weaver said, “I am very proud of our girls for buying into a new system, working hard all year long, having another 20-win season, and securing the #1 seed going into the district tournament. But this is a new season and our goal is to win back-to-back district titles for the first time since the 1994-1995 seasons. We’ll have to play well against Butler County but our focus is about us and making sure we are playing well.”
Good Luck Lady Cats and Wildcats in the district tournament.
