Putting their heads together
The Barren River Area Development District held their Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Public meeting on Dec. 6 in the Brownsville Community Center. Local board members, executives, small business owners and the public were all in attendance, to give their ideas, recommendations and opinions on what they believed to be needed for the county to move forward economically.
BRADD has helped Edmonson County for several years to show where the county is lacking in Economic Development. The surveys that are conducted helps community leaders to plan ahead.
Here are just a few of the statistics that they compiled; population is 12,161, Health Care & Social Services is the largest industry, 77 percent of residents have high school diploma or higher, 48 percent Pre-K enrollment with an all STARS Rating, 74.6 percent of the population have access to broadband, median household income is $41,689, 29.1% below poverty level, 5.8 percent unemployment rate and the life expectancy is 77 years.
Sometime in January BRADD will be back to Edmonson County and meet with the elected officials to discuss their ideas and then there will be another public meeting set up to go over everything.
