GEORGE WALTER CORBETT
May 23, 1923 – November 14, 2018
EVANT, TEXAS – George Walter Corbett, age 95, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at Hillside Medical Lodge in Gatesville, Texas after a long illness. A memorial service will be held in the near future for family and friends to celebrate the life of a very special man. Burial will be in the private family cemetery.
Mr. Corbett was born on May 23, 1923, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He graduated from Bradford Sr. High in Bradford, Pennsylvania. He proudly served in the US Army in WWII in the European Theater; he was at the Liberation of France, the Battle of the Bulge, and other battles throughout Europe. He married Evelyn Gurnot on May 24, 1946. He was a respiratory therapist for 36 years. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. He was a quiet, gentle, and kind man. He was a longtime member of the Christian Biblical Church of God.
Mr. Corbett is survived by his wife of 72 ½ years, Evelyn Marie Corbett; three children: Kathy Ruth Mawer of Debary, Florida, Terry Alan (Janice) Corbett of Evant, Texas, and Holly Lynn (Andrew) Jordan of Bowling Green, Kentucky; and six grandchildren: Stephanie (Dan) Cushman of Debary, Florida, Edward (Melissa) Young of Deland, Florida, Terry (Nicole) Corbett, Jr. of Lumberton, Texas, Dominic (Susan) DeCaro of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, James (Rachel) Corbett of Crawford, Texas, and Daniel (Marci) DeCaro of Louisville, Kentucky. He was proud of his 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
