Time for a Jamboree
With a beautiful Saturday finally appearing at almost the end of April, the Edmonson County Softball and Baseball league was able to have their Jamboree at the HWY 70 park. Festivities started at 8:30 a.m. with recognition of two former outstanding championship teams.
The season has been underway for a week but that didn’t make the day any less special for the teams of the 2018 season. From the presentation of the colors by the local Boy Scout Troop #597 to the singing of the National Anthem by Andrea Brantley, the sense of community and pride were deeply felt.
One of the teams recognized at the ceremony was the first team to win a summer league district championship for Edmonson County, the 2015 District 6 team. They kept their season alive all the way to the Final Four at state before losing to the overall State Champions. Members of the team were Nick Clemmons, Luke Decker, Tyler Fugate, Isaiah Johnson, Dylan Lindsey, Luke Meredith, John Robert Meredith, Preston Mills, Eli Pedigo, Gavin Rose, Evan Stice and Jacob Vincent. The coaches were Chad Clemmons, Michael Meredith, Carl Mills, Shawn Stice and Jason Rose.
The 2017 Edmonson County All-Stars were also recognized for their advancement all the way to state last year. The coaches of that team were Terry Alexander, Shawn McCombs, and Ritchie Minyard. The team consisted of Daren Alexander, Will Alexander, Ty Brantley, Will Edwards, Kalob Harp, Peyton Keith, Jace McCombs, Gavyn Minyard, Cole Saling, Jesse Taylor, Colby Vincent and Colby Woodcock.
As soon as the formalities were over, games started on every field. Good luck to all of the teams for a wonderful, hopefully sunny, season.
