Dorothy Pottinger Slayton, 99, of Magnolia
Magnolia – Dorothy Pottinger Slayton, 99, Magnolia, passed away, Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville.
She was born near Magnolia in Hart County on October 27, 1917. She was a member of Mt. Zion Separate Baptist Church in Magnolia, a housewife and a retired farmer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gentry Slayton; two sons-in-law, Arnold Lobb and Hubert Wright; her parents, Edward and Catherine “Kate” Gardner Pottinger; three sisters, Sophia Druen, Ophia Jane Whitlow and a sister, who died in infancy, and five brothers, Gus Pottinger, Clyde Pottinger, Earl Pottinger, Fred Pottinger and Joe Pottinger.
She is survived by three daughters, Ovada Ward, Glasgow, Christine Lobb and Elaine Wright, both of Magnolia; a son, Hansel (Marlene) Slayton, Magnolia; six grandchildren, Marion Louis Ward, Michael Lynn Ward, Deborah (Paul) Murray, Ronald (Kim) Wright, Derick Wright and Kenton (Kendra) Slayton; two step-grandchildren, Chris (Brittany) Vance and Kim (Steve) Akrish; several great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held 2:00 pm Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia with Rev. James Crim, Rev. Gerald Gardner and Rev. Roger Pepper officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
