The first round of the boys’ 15th District Tournament featured a re-match of Monroe County and Allen County-Scottsville, two teams that split their regular season games. The Falcons would win the rubber match, 59-47.

The Falcons held a slim one-point lead, 25-24, at halftime. Kirkpatrick and Ben Massingille both hit 3-pointers for MCHS in the second quarter to help the Falcons take that lead.

Ty Mink led the second half charge hitting all three of his shots in the final frames. Mink finished with eight points, five steals, six rebounds and two assists for the Falcons.

The Falcons had a 9-2 run to open the third quarter.

Mink had help. Junior Billy Michael Dyer led all scorers with 21 points, 13 of those points in the second half. Tucker Kirkpatrick finished with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

The Patriots came within a bucket,36-34, at the end of the third period. Mink had a steal, layup and free throw early in the fourth quarter that gave Monroe County a 46-38 cushion. The lead extended to 10 points on a Kirkpatrick 3-pointer. The Falcons held on for the victory despite missing five straight free throws in the waning moments of the contest.
