Rand Paul campaigns in Edmonton

By Shirley Mayrand

U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Rand Paul (R) was in Edmonton Tuesday for a meet and greet at Mariachi’s Mexican Restaurant II. The basically last minute decision to stop in Edmonton on a long day of campaigning didn’t allow for much publicity, but approximately 30 people showed up to see what the candidate had to say about the issues facing the country today. Paul began by joking about global warming hysterics having a bad year and changing their name to climate change. But he warned that we cannot just laugh them off. While it may appear these people are just concerned about the environment, their intentions are more sinister than just curbing pollution and, “It does us a disservice as a country that Obama goes over to Copenhagen and gives credibility to these folks.”
At the climate summit held in Copenhagen in December, Socialist Bolivian president Evo Morales said that capitalism is going to end humanity and the only way to end pollution is to end capitalism.
Socialist dictator Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe blamed America’s capitalist gods for belching poisons that third world countries are choking on. He too called for the end of capitalism.

When the climate summit concluded Obama signed an Accord that the U.S. would contribute toward a $100 billion annual global fund for developing countries “to apologize for our industrial revolution.”
And it’s not just our lifestyle under attack.
In a Dec. 8, 2009 story in the Financial Post Canadian journalist Diane Francis called on the world to adopt China’s one child policy. She claims that it’s not just our vehicles, but that there are too many breathers causing global warming.
Paul also spoke about what made him, a Bowling Green ophthalmologist, leave a well respected profession (doctor) to a profession which is almost universally despised by most people.
“I’m worried about the direction our country is going,” Paul said. “The level of debt, our out of control spending..
